Cryptic of the Year #9

Eleven of this puzzle's answers relate to a specific year—can you figure out which? (Highlight the spoilered text at the end of this post to see the answer!)

This puzzle is the last of those requested via my stream several years ago! I'm caught up! This one was requested by multi-puzzle redeemer juff (of The Gnomon fame), who once again wanted to be surprised by the specific year.

Also once again, skaldskaparmal (whose latest puzzle is a masterpiece) was gracious enough to test, so many thanks to him!

Stay tuned for what's next! I'm thinking about returning to a puzzle gimmick I've only done once before...

TLC and PEARL JAM formed. RITA ORA was born. SUPER MARIO WORLD and GHOST came out. JAMBA, SKYMALL, and WIZARDS of the Coast were founded. Dr. Seuss's final book, OH, THE PLACES YOU'LL GO, was published. Bart invented the word KWYJIBO on the first standard episode of The Simpsons, which is now the name of a yo-yo trick Voyager 1 took a photo of Earth from 6 billion kilometers away, called PALE BLUE DOT. And it all happened in 1990!
